A smile makeover is a full service treatment option to improve your smile no matter what it looks like right now. It’s relatively straightforward, helping you achieve a wide variety of goals in as few office visits as possible.

The Goals of a Smile Makeover

  • A more beautiful, natural smile
  • Greater symmetry in your smile
  • Improved function with comfortable chewing and biting
  • Improved health by addressing real gum or tooth issues.

Who Is a Candidate for a Smile Makeover?

Anyone who wants a better smile should consider a total smile makeover. There’s no problem too large or too small to solve. Some of the most common problems addressed in a smile makeover include:

  • Alignment or chipping issues. If your teeth are a little misaligned, chipping tends to happen as you chew because the edges of the teeth aren’t meeting properly. A little prompt attention to alignment can keep your smile looking great for years to come.
  • A “gummy” smile with too much visible gum tissue, or the opposite where receding gums are changing the look of your smile.
  • Missing teeth that never grew in or that have since been lost.
  • General spacing issues, ranging from a gap between two teeth to overcrowding throughout the jaw.
  • Discoloration and yellowing, which happens to everyone eventually no matter how well they brush.
  • Visible or invisible tooth decay, whether it’s just begun or has gone on without detection for quite a while.

What Is Involved in a Smile Makeover?

Like any other makeover, the approach to your smile is tailored to your specific needs and wants. Do you want a Hollywood smile of sparkling white teeth, or do you just want a few improvements to your existing smile?

We work with each patient to discover their goals for their new smile and then pick the right procedures to accomplish them. Depending on what needs to be addressed, a smile makeover may involve:

  • Veneers – designed to cover the surface of the tooth partially or entirely to cover up misshapen or chipped teeth
  • Tooth-colored fillings – replace highly visible silver fillings with white material instead to disguise those cavities and restore your smile
  • Crowns – when teeth are too misshapen or damaged for veneers, a complete cap called a crown will restore its appearance and function
  • Teeth lengthening – achieved with veneers or crowns, this process aims to balance out teeth that developed a little short and aren’t very visible when you smile
  • Teeth whitening – with multiple techniques available today, there are teeth whitening options to tackle the most stubborn stains and yellowing
  • Dental bonding – small repairs that don’t call for veneers are easily accomplished with dental bonding, a similar procedure regularly used for individual chips or gaps
  • Implants and bridges – missing teeth are no match for the power of permanent dental implants or long-term bridges
  • Invisalign and clear braces – realign your smile for better function and appearance with braces and aligners that won’t attract attention.

Your smile makeover will also include any important dental procedures needed to support your health. We won’t just improve how your smile looks, but also how your whole mouth functions.

How Long Will a Smile Makeover Take?

The length of a smile makeover procedure depends entirely on what procedures are combined. If you only need some whitening and a little dental bonding, it may be possible to complete the work in a few hours and one office visit.

For more involved processes that include extensive orthodontics or implants, the makeover will likely take a few office visits to complete.

If you’re concerned about a specific time frame for an event like a wedding, mention this to Dr. Le when discussing your treatment. This will help us tailor the treatments to give you as many of the desired results as possible in time for your big day.

Will Insurance Cover a Smile Makeover?

Smile makeovers tend to vary in insurance coverage because they combine various treatments. Any work deemed medically necessary may be covered by your insurance, such as root canals or orthodontic work.

Procedures that are purely cosmetic, such as teeth whitening, will have to be covered out-of-pocket. Most patients find that they can get some of the makeover covered by insurance, which makes it much more affordable for them. Don’t assume that every part of the makeover will be strictly cosmetic either. You may be surprised to find that some of the treatments we recommend are also important for better bite and chewing function as well.

Benefits of a Smile Makeover

A better looking smile is obviously a benefit of its own, but the rewards of a smile makeover go deeper.

  • An improved look leads to higher confidence — will you finally feel ready to ask for that raise?
  • You could potentially improve the function of misaligned teeth — time to stop avoiding corn on the cob or getting a sore jaw from chewing awkwardly
  • Most procedures are permanent to long-lasting — no need to routinely go through the same work just to keep your smile looking good
  • Combining procedures saves time and money — cut down on consulting fees and request less time off work by consolidating your smile improvements.
